6.1 Journey from Hell to Heaven – The Ravan
Ravana represents all that is evil. Normally, people burn the effigy of a living person only in protest and anger as they dislike his actions morally, spiritually and socially. There would be no need to protest against someone who is dead. The fact that every year people burn larger and larger effigies of Ravana points to the subtle truth that Ravana is alive in our inner self and evil continues to grow in the present Kalyuga.
Like Sita, all human souls have been enslaved by Ravana, i.e. by the five vices, today.
Let us learn the secret hidden in ten heads of Ravana. Each head represents one or another vice:
- Lust
- Anger
- Greed
- Attachment
- Ego
- Laziness
- Cruelty
- Selfishness
- Envy
- Injustice
